Province of Quirino towards a Smart and Sustainable Community in Region II

In support of the Smart and Sustainable Communities (SMART) Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the province of Quirino conducted a Capacity Development and Workshop on Smart City Roadmap Formulation for Smart and Sustainable Quirino Province on August 9 and 13, 2024, at Quirino Water Sports Complex.

Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Quirino, led by PD Angel Gorospe, emphasized the importance of collaboration and commitment of all the sectoral heads in sharing expertise and experience, all the while participating in providing insights to formulate a roadmap for Quirino that is smart and sustainable.

The discussion led by DOST SMART Program Focal Person, Ms. Raquel B. Santos, with Dr. Betchie E. Aguinaldo, Director of Business Intelligence Research and Development Center (BIRD-C), centered on shared experiences and discussions from similar smart initiatives conducted in the region.

During the workshop, the participants shared their sustainable practices that made Quirino Province a third-class province in the country. With a continuous commitment to their initiative on Community United in Action (CUA), the hope to be a second-class province is underway.

The workshop and capacity development training are initiatives of Quirino Province to achieve its vision as a first-world province with a balanced ecology – one with vibrant eco-tourism and advanced agro-industry.
