Ilocos Norte gears toward the transformation to smart and sustainable community

The Province of Ilocos Norte recently initiated the Participatory Planning and Road Map Development Workshop, following the lead of Region I cities in its initiative to transform into a smart and sustainable community.

The Department of Science and Technology Region I spearheaded the event with resource speakers, Atty. Reina Santos, the Smart City Focal Person of the Local Government of Cauayan City, and Dr. Betchie Aguinaldo, Director of Business Intelligence Research and Development Center in Isabela State University, from March 12-13, 2024, at the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) Auditorium in partnership with Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte.

It is participated by representatives from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the National Economic and Development Authority, who served as panelists, sharing plans and best practices and providing solutions to aid in the attainment of the Smart City Project.

The two-day workshop aims to make the province more business-oriented and entrepreneurial while retaining its unique cultural identity. The proactive engagement of sectoral heads is a valuable step towards the transformational growth of PGIN into a smarter and more sustainable province in Region I.
