DOST R8, PSTO join forces in Groundbreaking Smart City Project

In an exciting development for Borongan City, a Smart City Roadmap Presentation and Stakeholder’s Consultation took place on Wednesday, June 21. The event marked a significant milestone as two universities, Isabela State University (ISU) and Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), joined forces with Borongan City and Cauayan City, signing a memorandum of agreement/understanding (MOA/MOU).

At the forefront of the “Smart City Project of Borongan” is the collaborative MOA/MOU signed by key stakeholders and partners, including LGU Borongan, DOST-R08, DOST-R02, DILG, DICT, ESSU, and ISU.

The following dignitaries and officials were present at the said event: Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda, Borongan City Vice Mayor Emman Riu Sonco, Cauayan City Mayor Caesar Dy Jr., Dr. Deogracias Paano from the City Project Management Office, Regional Director Engr. Ernesto Granada of DOST Region 8, Assistant Regional Director Marilyn O. Radam of DOST Region 8, Provincial Science and Technology Officers of Eastern Samar (PSTO), Regional Director Dr. Virginia Bilgera of DOST Region 2, Engr. Sancho Mabborang (Undersecretary for Regional Operations – DOST), President Dr. Ricmar Aquino of Isabela State University, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan Jr represented by Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, Vice-President for Administration of Eastern Samar State University, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Borongan, and LGU department heads.

The event also highlighted the turnover of cutting-edge systems developed by ESSU, including the Registry of Barangay Inhabitants and Migrants Digital App and Data Storage Platform, as well as the innovative Libre Sakay Digital Application and Hardware System. These technological advancements promise to revolutionize services and improve efficiency in Borongan City.
