DOST Caraga and Butuan City partner for Smart City Roadmap and Capacity Building

One with the Department of Science and Technology in attaining its vision for a smarter and more resilient nation fueled by Science, Technology, and Innovation, DOST with the City Government of Butuan (CGB) embarked on the Smart City Roadmap and Capability Development for Butuan City on August 3-5, 2024.

The three-day event focused on equipping Technical Working Group (TWG) with skills and knowledge from SSCP resource speakers, Dr. Betchie Aguinaldo, Director of Business Intelligence Research and Development Center, Atty. Reina Consorcia Santos, Project Coordinator for Smart and Sustainable Communities for Cauayan City.

It is attended by the Office of the City Mayor consultant and representatives, officials from regional line agencies such as DICT and DILG, and members of the academic and civil society sectors.

Prior to the event, an organizational meeting was held by DOST-CARAGA and the City Planning and Development Department to introduce the concept of a smart city, the function of the Technical Working Group (TWG), and the work plan for developing the SSC roadmap for Butuan City. This initiative not only prepared the participants for the roadmap formulation but also served as the instrument to gather the support of Butuan City government departments, civil society organizations, academe, and other relative participants, whose commitment to developing a roadmap is crucial.

The speakers and key stakeholders also paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada, where next steps are outlined, focusing on bridging gaps and keeping the momentum toward achieving the vision of a smarter, more sustainable Butuan City.
